When Nicole O’Hara first started screen printing t-shirts by hand in her university’s print studio, the goal was to create conversation pieces- items of clothing that spoke to whoever was looking at them, or prompted people to speak to whoever was wearing them. What began with a t-shirt proclaiming ‘YOKO ONO IS BIGGER THAN THE BEATLES’ (intended to both celebrate Nicole’s favourite artist and piss off vicious Beatles devotees) soon became a fully fledged concept- a collection of pieces inspired by music history, experimenting with wordplay, slogans, and, above all, general silliness.
Merchandise can currently be found in Next Door Records (London), Jane & Jeremy (Brighton), online (here), annually at the Independent Label Market in Coal Drop’s Yard, and at other pop-ups and markets throughout the year. Follow @nicolelohara on Instagram to keep up!
